In scenes set to air later this month on the ITV soap, Rhona (played by Zoe Henry) will end up saying "yes" to her controlling beau Pierce (Jonathan Wrather) after a Valentine's Day misunderstanding.
Soap star Zoe, 43, revealed all on the upcoming story lines from Emmerdale, saying that Pierce would mysteriously vanish on the day and only returns later on involving Pierce's dead wife Tess (Nicola Stephenson).
She explained: “He's disappeared a few times before, so she thinks this is one of his magical disappearing tricks when he gets in a huff and off he goes and he comes back and everything's okay.
“Tess is not in the forefront of her mind. She's buried that awful situation, that dark situation, very deep down, so she doesn't have to revisit it. So, it's the last thing she would think of.”
When Pierce does come back, Rhona asks about his disappearance and accuses him of having an affair. It is then he reveals that he has been thinking about his late wife Tess, who died this time last year.
Rhona realises her mistake and apologises unreservedly to Pierce, giving him the upper hand. She tries to make it up to him and asks him to propose to her again, leading the pair to get engaged.
However, things will be far from easy after Rhona ends up sharing a drunken and “lingering” kiss with her ex-husband Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) on the day they get the official divorce papers through – and before Pierce finally shows up.

Once the proposal happens, she gets swept up in the excitement and joy that Pierce is showing and she decides she's going to bury it and never talk about it
“Once the proposal happens, she gets swept up in the excitement and joy that Pierce is showing and she decides she's going to bury it and never talk about it,” Zoe said.
She added: “It was a mistake, it should never have happened. So let's just wipe it clean from our memories.”
Pierce has been getting gradually more controlling and possessive over Rhona over the course of year. There have even been some deeply uncomfortable scenes in which he raped Rhona and undermined her in front of her friends.
The storyline has garnered a strong reaction from viewers, who have slammed the fictional character and have urged Rhona to report him.

The vet has not yet found the courage to speak out or even recognise the situation for what it is.
Nevertheless, Zoe said it would eventually all come to a head and that the audience would be given an inkling but they wouldn’t know exactly when or how Pierce’s bad behaviour would finally be exposed.
“John has played it really well. A year down the line,” Zoe said.
Emmerdale continues on ITV tonight at 7pm.
