But, tonight viewers were convinced that Andy Sugden (played by Kelvin Fletcher) would make a return as £20,000 was anonymously donated to his daughter Sarah's (Katie Hill) cancer fund.
It comes after Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb) returned earlier this week in need of money as her daughter's cancer had returned in heartbreaking scenes.
She told her family that Sarah could not receive the treatment she needed on the NHS and would have to go private.
Unfortunately, the treatment would be very costly and she revealed she needed £50,000 to pay for it all.

Keen to help her out, Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) set up an online fundraising page to try and encourage those in the village to donate.
While she and Debbie watched small amounts of money being donated as they checked the page they were left open-mouthed when £20,000 dropped into the fund.
Many viewers took the donation as a sign that Sarah's father would be returning to help save the day.
Replying to Emmerdale's official Twitter account, which asked fans who they thought had donated the money, one viewer replied: "I think it's Andy Sugden. I really hope it is."
