Greater Manchester Police have confirmed two warrants have been executed by officers this afternoon and a 19-year-old arrested in Gorton during the raids.
Images from the scene show police cars and riot vans carrying armed officers parked in a residential street, believed to be Mount Road in Gorton.
And officers have also taped off a section of Searby Road between Aylesby Avenue and Manby Road.
One eyewitness said: "I live about halfway down the street and the house shook so it must have been big.
“The kids in the street started screaming.
“Police were already on the scene and bomb disposal had gone through.
“Police just told us not to go anywhere near the scene.”
Police have been spotted on residential streets in Rusholme and Gorton
A letter posted through the doors of residents in Gorton confirmed a warrant was conducted on Nearby Road this evening.
The letter read: “We want to reassure our communities that these tactics are a necessary and important part of the ongoing investigation into Monday’s tragic events.
“We have increased patrols in this area and officers are speaking to local residents.
“Officers will continue to provide a visible presence in the location as we understand that incidents such as this will cause concern.

An explosion was heard by neighbours in Rusholme
While in Rusholme, the dog unit has been called as police stormed a house in the area.
One Twitter user in Rusholme said: "Bomb/ controlled explosion / gun shot in rusholme. Not sure which one but it was loud!!! Its now swarmed with police."
Another witness added he heard a loud bang then loads of police turned up, before three men were brought out of a house by officers.
Police are on the scene in Gorton
However it is thought by some neighbours that the "loud bang" was police as they broke through the front door of a house on Grandale Street , which was raided at about 6.35pm this evening.
The junction of Hibbert Street and Grandad Street is shut off as police vans packed with dozens of officers block the roads.
A GMP statement said: “Today officers investigating the attack on the Manchester Arena have executed two warrants; one in Rusholme and one in Gorton.
“Searches are currently on-going.”

The raids come hours after Moss Side was surrounded by armed police again as a house was searched.

Currently 15 people in total have been arrested in connection with the investigation, of which two people have since been released without charge.
The raids come nearly a week on from the attack on Monday evening at Manchester Arena, which killed 22 people and injured around 120 people.
