Mr Trump took to Twitter this lunchtime to rule out a link between Washington and Vladimir Putin – before directly warning the Russian leader things would be different during his presidency.
He said: "This Russian connection non-sense is merely an attempt to cover-up the many mistakes made in Hillary Clinton's losing campaign."
Eleven minutes later he added: "Information is being illegally given to the failing @nytimes & @washingtonpost by the intelligence community (NSA and FBI?).Just like Russia
"The real scandal here is that classified information is illegally given out by "intelligence" like candy. Very un-American!"

He then sent a direct warning to Mr Putin, accusing him of seizing Crimea during Barack Obama's time in the White House.
Mr Trump said: "Crimea was TAKEN by Russia during the Obama Administration. Was Obama too soft on Russia?"

His comments came after the New York Times and CNN claimed officials within the Kremlin had regular contact with Donald Trump's team during the run-up to last November's election.
This claim was also dismissed by Russia who described the story as "laughable".

CNN reported this week there were several close links between Mr Trump and Mr Putin during the election.
In a highly controversial report they said: "High-level advisers close to then-presidential nominee Donald Trump were in constant communication during the campaign with Russians known to US intelligence, multiple current and former intelligence."
The report claimed then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort was “regularly” communicating with Russian contacts during the election – a claim he vehemently denies.

He said: “That is 100% not true, at least as far as me. I cannot believe that they are including me in anything like that. I have not been involved in any of these activities.
"I don't remember talking to any Russian officials, ever. Certainly during the time we're talking about. I have knowingly never talked to any intelligence official or anyone in Russia regarding anything of what's under investigation.
“I have never had any connection to Putin or the Russian government before, during or after the campaign."
