Payet completed his £25million switch from West Ham to Marseille yesterday.
Slaven Bilic revealed earlier in the month that Payet was refusing to play for West Ham in order to push through a move back to his home country.
West Hams fans quickly turned on the 29-year-old for the way he went about forcing through the transfer.
Dimitri Payet doesn't think he needs to explain himself
Dimitri Payet joined Marseille for £25million
The France international only joined West Ham 18 months ago and quickly established himself as a fan favourite before earning a new £125,000-a-week deal last February.
West Ham co-owner David Sullivan slammed Payet for showing a lack of 'loyalty' to the fans that once sang his name in a statement on the club website.
“The Club would like to place on record its sincere disappointment that Dimitri Payet did not show the same commitment and respect to West Ham United that the Club and fans showed him, particularly when it rewarded him with a lucrative new five-and-half-year deal only last year," said Sullivan.

But Payet has hit back at the club by saying he doesn't need to explain his reasoning for forcing a move back to Marseille.
"I do not have to justify my behaviour to West Ham," said Payet. "Not at all. I was not happy and needed to return home.
“I spoke to the manager, Slaven Bilic, face to face.
"Going back to Marseille is a personal choice. I was no longer feeling well at West Ham, I needed to return to my roots.
“I will speak about this, but not now. I would prefer to savour this moment. I will speak about those things when the time is right.
"I lived an exceptional year at West Ham. It didn't end in the way I would have wanted it to. I have a great memory of the fans of the club."
