Martial struggled for game-time at Manchester United under Mourinho during the early part of this season.
But the France international has featured more regularly in recent weeks, starting five of the Red Devils’ last six games.
And Deschamps claims Martial wasn’t doing what Mourinho wanted earlier in the season, but he isn’t worried by the striker playing less this season.
Didier Deschamps claims Anthony Martial wasn't doing what Jose Mourinho told him
“Last season he played a lot,” Deschamps told French outlet L'Equipe.
“Certainly too much. He arrived burned out at the Euros.
“Jose Mourinho expected certain things for him, which he didn’t see in him earlier in the season.
“Nevertheless, Anthony is playing, not all the time, but it’s not bad.
“He knows when he is on the pitch, he will have to perform thoroughly.”
Martial joined United from Monaco in September 2015 in a deal potentially worth of up to £58million.
He was United's top scorer last season with 17 goals in all competitions.
