Danny Murphy thinks Jose Mourinho's tactics against Chelsea were spot on
Mourinho left Zlatan Ibrahimovic out, started Jesse Lingard alongside Marcus Rashford and got Ander Herrera to do a man-marking job on Eden Hazard.
It worked – Hazard offered little going forward while Herrera scored himself – as United eased to a 2-0 win.
Murphy explained the tactics on Match of the Day and said: “The spare man for Manchester United was at the back.
“It meant he went 2 v 1 with Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo and Herrera did a man-for-man on Hazard wherever he was on the pitch.
“It didn’t matter where he went, he followed him – that was his job.

Which Manchester United players impressed during their win over Chelsea?
“Matteo Darmian pushed in, even though he was like a third centre-half, and followed Pedro everywhere.
“You had Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini in the middle of the park, matched up with N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic.
“Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia, with their athleticism and pace, against Chelsea’s wing-backs.
“Then, of course, it was two players against the three instead of one, which many teams do against Chelsea in Lingard and Rashford.
“The front two caused them all sorts of problems.”
