Which players have left your Premier League club so far in January?

In a statement, Sunderland chief executive Martin Bain told Sky Sports: “If a player openly states he does not want to play for our club, then it is clear that we have a decision to make.

"In this instance and in regard to this particular player, we have done what we feel is right for Sunderland, which will always be our priority."

Sunderland will earn £14m from Van Aanholt's sale

Express Sport understands Van Aanholt was Allardyce's number one choice for a new left-back at Selhurst Park, while he also looked at signing Tottenham's Wales international Ben Davies.

Sunderland rejected an initial offer for Dutchman Van Aanholt, with manager David Moyes saying earlier this month: "I want to keep all my good players and build.

"Van Aanholt is a really important player for us.

"He's done very well."
