According to reports, Julia Goulding’s character is now one of the most popular in the ITV soap and cold be sticking around for a while thanks to a new romantic storyline.
“Shona has become one of the most popular characters on the show so it’s only a matter of time until Julia is signed up for a longer stint,” a source told The Sun Online.
Shona arrived on the cobbles with a huge secret as Kylie Platt’s killer Clayton Hibbs was revealed to be her son, and it wasn’t long before she was drawn to widow David (played by Jack P Shepherd) when she met him in a Manchester nightclub.
While he initially wasn’t interested in her advances, David then thought that Shona had stolen his wallet and their relationship has steadily developed since in the midst of the actress’ portrayal as the mother of a murderer.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Goulding was excited about her character’s future: “I can confirm that Shona is sticking around for a while so I am excited to see what they will throw at me. Bring on the drama.”
The storyline between the two unlikely lovebirds will develop as a result of Shona attempting to rescue David’s niece Bethany from twisted boyfriend Nathan Curtis in one of Coronation Street's most shocking storylines to date, and deemed "horrific" by fans.

Shona has to undergo an emergency operation in hospital and David discovers she had a child by C-section, but her secret remains intact after a visit from Gail McIntyre (Helen Worth) and a carefully crafted story.
When David returns, he kisses her to the surprise of both Gail and Shona.

Goulding said: “Shona does fancy David quite a bit and what she likes about him is that he is different from anyone she has been with before.
“She likes that he is funny, he makes her laugh and she sees he is a good father. It has been bubbling for quite a while but those feelings are definitely starting to surface.”
The Coronation Street actress also said that Shona is struggling to contain the truth about her son, and her guilt intensifies as her relationship with David grows.
“She doesn’t regret coming to Weatherfield because she has found a place in this community, she has a stable home, a stable job and she has met David,” Goulding explained.
“So even with everything else that’s going on she is glad that she has, she does’t regret being part of Coronation Street.”
