The 103-year-old celebrated her birthday by drinking prosecco and eating cake
Iris Essary, of Plymouth, Devon, celebrated her 103rd birthday on Friday by drinking prosecco and eating cake.
Celebrating the day, she said: “I thought I was 21!”
Her great nephew Robert Bailey’s partner, Jane, said the pensioner had revealed her regrets when she turned 100.
She said: “She told me she wished she had learnt to drive and that she had got drunk more often.”
Mrs Essary was born on April 7 1914, before the start of the First World War, in Plymouth, where she has lived all her life.
She married her husband, Jack, on August 1 1936.

However, he died while the couple were on holiday in Jersey in 1980, and she never remarried.

She has lived in Plymouth all her life, where she worked as an outfitter for Evans until she retired in 1974, and was living independently until she was well into her 90s.
Mr Bailey, who visits her at the care home where she now lives, said: “It’s unbelieveable that she’s 103.”

Tessa Gorman and Kerry Wilkinson, who look after Mrs Essary at her care home, said: “Iris is always polite, and she’s got a wicked sense of humour.
“She loves jewellery and anything pretty looking.
“She regularly has her nails done and she loves it – she never complains either”.
