Joel Matip turned down the opportunity to represent Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations due to an ongoing dispute with the Cameroonian Football Federation.
The Liverpool defender was one of eight players who refused their call-ups and missed out on winning the tournament.
Cameroon pulled off a surprise 2-1 victory against Egypt in the final and manager Hugo Broos has claimed the absent players will regret it.
