The comedian had been slated to return to the BBC period drama as Camilla ‘Chummy’ Browne.
But back in August, she announced that work commitments had forced her to quit.
She tweeted: “It’s with a heavy heart that having shared Chummy's return to CTM, I've not been able to birth (pun) the schedule to make it work.
“Truly sad not to be playing Chummy this year but fans are in for a real treat with Dame Harriet Walter as a new cast member and more besides.”
Hart appeared in the show from its inception, but left at the beginning of season four with her character sent away to take over as matron of a mother and baby unit.
Her last-minute decision forced creator Helen Thomas to rewrite the new season at very short notice.
“We were thrilled when Miranda approached us, and I storylined the series for her, but at relatively short notice she had to withdraw,” she told Radio Times.

Call The Midwife returns tonight
The nurses of Nonntus House return tonight fresh from their adventures in South Africa.
The BBC have teased: “In their absence, Sister Ursula has been running a very tight ship and it is quickly announced that she will remain in charge at Nonnatus House, above Sister Julienne.”
The new season will see the nurses encounter female genital mutilation (FGM), the introduction of the pill and the looming shadow of the Kray twins.
