This is according to German outlet Fussball Transfers, who claim the Bundesliga club are hopeful of securing a second loan deal for the defender.
Rahman joined Schalke last summer on a season-long loan from Chelsea.
But the 22-year-old's season was cut short after he suffered a serious knee injury while on international duty with Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations back in January.

Rahman is unlikely to force his way back into Antonio Conte's plans at Chelsea next season.
And he is open to the idea of staying with the German club.
Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel said: "We've really missed him after his cruciate and meniscus injury, which he has suffered during an assignment with Ghana at the Africa Cup.
