United Airlines has been forced to ground domestic flights

The “IT issue” was announced on the company’s Twitter page, adding: “A ground stop is in place for domestic flights due to an IT issue. We're working on a resolution.

“We apologise for the inconvenience.”

United spokeswoman, Maddie King, told CNN: “We have issued a ground stop for all domestic mainline flights due to an IT issue.

“We are working as quickly as possible to resolve this issue and get our customers to their final destinations. We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers.”

It comes after thousand of travellers around the world were delayed after a computer glitch on United Airlines in October, last year.

The technical fault on United Airlines temporarily halted departures on October 13.

Passengers were forced to wait for several hours in planes or in the terminals as their flights were delayed.

One person tweeted: “On the plane for more than an hour, away form the age and no communication. What’s happening?”

According to FlightAware.com, from around 1.30pm BST today the airline had to cancel ten flights and a further 37 were delayed.
