The Turkish Airlines flight had to turn back to the gate after the bomb threat was found
The Boeing 777-300, which was just about to set off for Toronto, was already taxiing down the runway at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport when the note was found.
It read in English: "I am coming to you with Toronto bomb."
The flight, which was due to depart at 3.30pm local time (12.30pm GMT), was dramatically halted and turned back to the terminal.
Its 292 passengers had to immediately leave the aircraft for it to be searched.
The flight was a codeshare between Air Canada, Singapore Airlines and Turkish Airlines.
After being taken off the original Turkish Airlines aircraft, passengers boarded another plane which is due to set off four hours late at 7.30pm Istanbul time.
A flight to Athens due to depart 80 minutes later was also grounded after the incident and is due to set off at 8.30pm.
This is breaking news.
