The group had left Mecca when the tragic accident occurred

The tragedy was confirmed by the British Foreign Office this afternoon.

There have been unconfirmed reports a seventh Briton has also died. Several others are injured.

The accident occurred yesterday as the group travelled from Mecca and Medina.

The victims are believed to include a family from Manchester and a couple, aged in their sixties, from Glasgow.

Tragically a baby aged less than two months old is thought to be among the dead.

The Glasgow victims' mosque posted a tribute online, revealing the group had travelled to Mecca for the Umrah pilgrimage.

The Home Office said: "We are supporting the families of six British people who have sadly died following a road accident in Saudi Arabia.

“We are also helping several more British nationals who were injured in the crash. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families at this very difficult time.”
