An 'inappropriate' fireworks display was held in east London tonight
The loud fireworks caused panic almost exactly 24 hours after seven people were killed by terrorists in last night’s London attack.
The Intercontinental Hotel – The 02 has apologised for the incident, which led residents to fear guns were being fired.
The hotel Tweeted: "Dear neighbours, we thoroughly apologise for the ill timing of the fireworks this evening. We hope to have an explanation very shortly."
In some instances the fireworks were mistaken for gunshots, with others saying it was a mistake to let them off in a city “on edge”.
The fireworks were slated on social media by a number of users from around 9.45pm this evening.
One Twitter user wrote: “When there's fireworks and your mum asks if they're gunshots.. #london #whataworld”
Another said they had also mistaken the fireworks for "gunfire".
