Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of an “acid attack”.
Paramedics are treating a man at Barking train station after a an attacker “threw what is believed to have been a corrosive substance at him.”
Witnesses reported “carnage” at the station as commuters were evacuated from a waiting train following the attack.
Passengers said two men were seen fighting on the platform before the “acid” was thrown.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “A man was attacked by someone who threw what is believed to have been a corrosive substance at him.
“Officers are at the scene alongside paramedics from the London Ambulance Service who are treating the victim.
“We are in the early stages of the investigation but early indications suggest the victim and offender may have been known to each other.”
