A bottle of booze has become the most expensive whisky sold at an online auction for £65,210
The rare Scottish-distilled Macallan bottle of whisky attracted the eye of a Taiwanese buyer – who has vowed to pick up the bottle in person.
The booze was sold online by auctioneer Whisky Online based in Blackpool, Lancs., which cost only £3,000 when it was released in 2006 – claiming a 2,066pc profit.
But now the company behind the deal are encouraging people to invest their money not in shares and stocks – but whisky instead.
Whisky Online's Harrison Ormerod said: "It is becoming a popular investment and currently it is the third best commodity in the world – if you buy whisky, it will never go down in value.
"At a recent exhibition we took two bottles of whisky, together worth £20,000 and we had customers who travelled from as far as the Far East – just to taste it."
The booze was sold online by auctioneer Whisky Online based in Blackpool, Lancs.
With 25 years experience behind it, the firm has a reputation for its knowledge of unusual whiskies – which they sell on with 5pc commission.
Harrison says the Macallan bottle had its value enhanced because it was presented in a hand blown Lalique glass decanter.

Giving advice to prospective collectors, Harrison said: "The whiskies are readily available and are selling at reasonable prices and at the moment we are recommending people to buy Glendronach.
"A 30-year-old Glendronach can be bought for £500 to £600 at the moment – while a Macallan would be £2,000.
"The distilleries both specialise in sherry casks which are difficult to get hold of now."
