Australian performance artists create a huge golden clitoris

Performance artist Alli Sebastian Wolf has created the massive golden sparkly female appendage in the hope of educating the public as to what the sexual organ looks like.

Miss Wolf, from Sydney, Australia, enlisted the help of two employees and spent more than 20 hours attempting to build the enlarged version of the clitoris.

I hope that the image of the clitoris will become just as recognisable as the image of the male anatomy

Miss Wolf said she did not know what the organ looked like until she came across an illustration in a book.

Miss Wolf's artwork 'The Glitoris' is a 100:1 scale model of a clitoris, covered in intricate sequinned nerves so it lights up the room like a divine disco ball.

Miss Wolf said she decided to come up with the massive design because the area is often left off anatomical drawings of the female sexual organs because 'it is not part of reproduction'.

Australians will now be able to see the true extent of the mystical area when it is paraded – along with The Clitorati dancers – in Sydney on February 11.

Miss Wolf said: "I hope that the image of the clitoris will become just as recognisable as the image of the male anatomy.

"It's surprising how few people know that a clitoris is more than just the little tip you see on the outside, under the surface it's so much more.

"It's a glorious spaceship-looking creature with 8,000 nerves that can swell to three times its size in moments.

"The Glitoris was made to educate people – it's political and feminist, but also a celebration; it's a hell of a lot of playful fun. After all, isn't that the whole point of a clitoris – the only part of the human body whose exclusive purpose is pleasure?"

"The world will be a happier, healthier place when this shape is as familiar as the old John Thomas. Maybe some day we'll have as many clits graffitied on toilet walls as penises. That will be a good day."
