STUDIO WILDCARD
ARK Survival Evolved on PS4 has been a big seller since its launch in December
January has proved a big month for ARK Survival Evolved on PS4, with Sony confirming it was its biggest seller on the PlayStation Store for the second month in a row.
That puts the open-world survival game ahead of the likes of Resident Evil 7, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition and Battlefield 1.
Strangely enough, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Rocket League placed fifth and sixth in January, remaining two of the most popular games on the console since their respective launches.
Developer Studio Wildcard recently revealed that ARK had hit over 100,000 people on Steam, setting a new record, while also providing some pretty impressive stats for the PS4 too.
Studio co-founder Jeremy Stieglitz confirmed to fans: “We typically have 50k Xbox & 65k PS4 on Sunday so together def over 200k [on all platforms] on ARK at the moment. If only they could all play together hmm!”
When ARK Survival Evolved was announced for launch on PS4, Studio Wildcard reaffirmed their commitment to providing cross-platform play, however, it is unclear if this feature will ever be fully implemented.
The studio has also given an update of sorts on whether ARK could be ported and made part of the Nintendo Switch games list.

With the Nintendo Switch powered by a custom NVIDIA chip, developers will be able to easily port over any games that are developed with a PC base.
With many Xbox One and PS4 games starting out this way, fans can expect more ports further down the line.
The process would only take around a year, according to Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, whose comments (via GamesIndustry.jp) suggest that third-party ports could begin to trickle out from autumn onwards.
So now we know the process is entirely possible from a development point of view, what are Studio Wildcard’s views on the console?
One community manager told fans on the forums: "We don't have any current plans for the Nintendo Switch, though I will be closely watching how that console does in its launch."
Nintendo recently spoke more on their intentions to strengthen Switch third-party support with Shinya Takahashi commenting: “For our previous game platforms, creating our own development tools was a high priority for us.
“However, since the start of Nintendo Switch development we have been aiming to realize an environment in which a variety of different third-party developers are able to easily develop compatible software, such as by making it compatible with Unreal and Unity as well as our own development tools.
“As a result, even companies with only a few developers have already started making games for Nintendo Switch. The development of Snipperclips ‐ Cut it out, together! started with one such small team.
“Since last year, we have introduced Nintendo Switch to a variety of different development companies by demonstrating software such as 1-2-Switch. At each demonstration, everyone was interested in the new play styles.
"During our recent (January 13) Nintendo Switch presentation, we played a video message from the creator of Skyrim, Mr. Todd Howard of Bethesda Game Studios, in which he shared the genuine impression he had already given us when we first showed him Nintendo Switch.
“Nintendo will keep on creating unique software. By doing so, I believe we will encourage third-party developers to create a number of quality software titles for Nintendo Switch.”
