While Chelsea are seemingly running away with the title this season, just five points separate Manchester United in sixth place and Tottenham in second.

United were as much as 10 points adrift of the top four at the start of December but an accumulation of good form and slip ups from their rivals has drawn them back into contention.

And Herrera believes United are in a strong position to reach their target of securing Champions League football for next season.

“That’s what we want,” said Herrera. “I think the fight with the first six teams in the league – and I add also Everton because they have a very good team – will be very tough.

“We all want to be in the top four and there’s still a lot to play for, but I think we are in a good moment.

“They can see ‘Man United is chasing us’. It is true that we did not win three games in a row before Leicester, but the feelings were good.

“I think we deserved more away at Stoke and against Hull at home, so I think we are in a good moment.

“We are fighting for a lot of things. Three competitions plus the Premier League, the race for the top four.

“I think we have a lot of things to play for. All the players in the squad want to play as many games as possible.”
