Apple could launch its new Siri speaker at WWDC in San Jose
Apple's WWDC developers conference opens its doors in San Jose next week and it seems a new product could get a grand unveiling.
Rumours have been rife that the US technology giant will reveal a new speaker that could take aim at Amazon's award-winning Echo.
Since it launched last year, the Echo has gone on to be a huge success for the online retail giant with the device able to play music, get weather reports and the latest news via simple voice commands.
Now it seems Apple wants a slice of this new category with the latest reports suggesting the speaker is already being manufactured.
According to Bloomberg, the Siri speaker is in the advanced stages of production but it looks unlikely that Apple will be shipping the device until later in the year.

If they do announce the device at WWDC it will give developers time to produce apps and services ready for a launch later in 2017.
The speaker would mark Apple’s first all-new gadget since the 2015 release of the Apple Watch and could bring some serious competition to the music market.
Despite offering the same search-making, music-controlling, weather-checking voice controlled features as the competition, Apple speaker is said to offer some advanced features of its own.
As well as overlooking Amazon’s Alexa or Google’s AI in favour of its own Siri assistant, Apple’s connected speaker will reportedly pack virtual surround sound technology.
It is claimed that this will be backed up by deep integration with Apple’s product lineup and act as a hub from which users will be able to automate appliances synced up with Apple’s HomeKit system.

According to Apple analyst Gene Munster, “this will be a platform for developing Apple’s services”.
Although the subject of much speculation, Apple as yet to offer any official comment on its rumoured smart speaker.
With the WWDC keynote set to kick off at 6pm GMT next Monday Apple fans haven't got too long to wait for the big announcements.
Set to drop alongside major iOS 11 and macOS update announcements, Apple is also expected to use its WWDC gathering to unveil new iPad and MacBook upgrades.
