Manchester United were linked with Alvaro Morata for weeks as Jose Mourinho sought a long-term replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
However, the deal failed to materialise as the Old Trafford club refused to meet Real Madrid's asking price.
The Red Devils instead turned their attention to Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, snapping him up for £75million.
But despite bringing in the prolific Belgium international, Mourinho has admitted he is disappointed a deal for Morata was not agreed.

Manchester United could not agree a fee with Real Madrid for Alvaro Morata
"It is a shame," Mourinho said after United's 5-2 win over LA Galaxy.
"He is a player who made it to the first team with me [at Real Madrid] and I have a special liking for.
"I enjoyed watching his evolution in Juventus and Madrid.
"But we have not reached an agreement with his club and I don't think he can end with us."

Morata is likely to remain with Real this season but he will be hoping to be more of a feature under Zinedine Zidane this term.
The Spain international was used sparingly in the club's title-winning campaign, starting just 14 La Liga games.
However, across all competitions he still managed a respectable goal tally, bagging 20 goals and six assists in 43 games.
His current deal at the Bernabeu runs until June 2021, with the player having been re-signed by Real from Juventus last summer.
