A serious crash is causing chaos on the A1(M) this morning
An air ambulance was scrambled to the scene after a crash between a car and a motorbike.
The motorcyclist crashed into the central reservation, police are quoted as telling the Hertfordshire Mercury, suffering serious injuries.
Southbound traffic is now returning to normal. Northbound will continue to suffer problems until after midday.
The road had closures between Junction 7 and Junction 4 southbound, along with the Junction 5 northbound at the slip entry.
Highways England said: “The A1M in Hertfordshire is currently closed northbound between J4 and J6 and southbound within J6 while we assist police and emergency services with a serious collision.
“Northbound traffic is being diverted via the Solid Diamond diversion symbol and should exit the A1M at J4 and take the 2nd exit towards Wheathampstead. At the next roundabout take the 1st exit and follow the B653 towards Wheathampstead.
